Kricket 4 Kenya

I came across the link to this fantastic site on the Friends of Kenya Cricket - UK site that has finally been updated (if only Cricket Kenya would follow suite!).
Basically, Kricket 4 Kenya is a new charity set up in th UK to collect sporting equipment, especially cricket gear, for under-privileged children in Kenya. It has been set up by MWR Solicitors in response to the current humanitarian situation in kenya and if you live in in England, it needs your support. If you do not have any equipment to donate, you can still help: Talk about it, tell your friends, let your local school know. It will end up making a huge difference to the children in Kenya and will hopefully help to bring on a new generation of Kenyan players who will now have a chance rather than nothing.
Kricket 4 Kenya has the backing of Cricket Kenya, so get in touch and 'Be a sport and donate today'.
For those of you in Sydney, Australia who would like to help, we are also collecting, so drop me a line (the email link is in the 'profile page').
Note: I am not officially linked with K4K, but it is a bloody good idea and as we had already recieved some donations here, hopefully we can join forces.

Nick,

Just going through the page on the history of Kenyan cricket in the last 10 years, I find it interesting that Kenya have actually managed to get a good dose of quality cricket against Test domestic/A teams, not only in the limited overs format, but also in the longer 4-day version...As if that wasn't surprising, Kenya did manage some very good results from those tours, which makes me doubly wonder why Kenyan cricket has gone backwards?...Is it something I'm missing here?

I have already commented on this at great length. If you do not believe me, go back through the archives of cricinfo and the kenyan dailies that detail what happened under KCA. I feel enough has been said on this. Kenyan cricket is now very definitely moving forward, and that is where the emphasis should be, not on the past.

Nick,

I hope you understand that I'm NOT trying to defend the KCA or attack CK here...I'm only wondering why Kenyan cricket went backwards when they indeed got to play against quality opposition on a fairly regular basis?..I say this because the most common reason given for the decline of Kenyan cricket standards was the lack of quality fixtures...That's why I wanted to know if you've anything to say on this that I missed...

I would like to emphasize that CK is doing much more than the KCA in putting the game on the right path and not for a moment am I disputing that!!

Ram - have a close look at exactly how much first class cricket Kenya played between the 2003 World Cup and when Cricket Kenya took over. This is the period where things went really bad, not beforem though it did start earlier.
Add up the number of ODIs played.
Look at the player disputes during that time (& before).
Look at the fact that player numbers dropped in the years after 2003 despite Kenya reaching the semi finals, a time they should have risen dramatically.
Look at how the domestic situation in that time ground almost to a standstill.
As I said, the reasons for all of this are well documented. it is really not too hard to see the causes.
